At Masterschool, we work hard to stay focused and separate the signal from the noise.
It's a continuous effort, and utilizing different communication methods, such as synchronous (’sync’) and asynchronous (’async’) communication, helps us maintain clarity of mind, respect our teammates' time, and prioritize tasks effectively.
Below is a brief explanation of the two key types of communication that we use in Slack: Sync and Async.

Sync communication
Anytime you need a quick response, e.g., "Are you coming to this meeting?" — use Direct Message (DM)
A Slack DM is like a tap on the shoulder. It says, "I need your attention now. Please stop what you are doing." — use these sparingly.

Async communication
Use async channels → "async" Slack channels are one of our secret weapons for keeping our minds clear and staying focused throughout the day.
We aim to check async 1:1 channels at least once a day.
Remember to set the async channel as a private (🔒) channel to prevent cluttering the public channel list (Learn more about public vs. private channels).
Async communication example:

Async Slack channel titles are written as -async-alice-bob.
